8/18/15 UPDATE: “Nathan’s memorial service will be this Saturday, August 22 at 3:00 pm at Porter Loring Mortuary Sanctuary – 2102 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, TX, 78232. There will also be a burial on Monday, August 24 at Laurel Land Funeral Home in Dallas, but that time has not been set yet.”
****************************************************

This morning the River City Shooters Club mourns the loss of one of our own. Retired Officer Nathan Murray passed away quietly at 10:00 pm last night, due to complications from cancer and a recent bout with pneumonia.

As many of you know, Nate was wounded on while on duty in 2003, along with 3 other officers; shot while on his knees tending to one of his wounded brothers in blue. The shot shattered his jaw, and damaged an artery that, 20 months later, caused a stoke leaving him paralyzed with partial brain damage.

Nate was fond of saying, “you have to accept it because that’s just the way it is, you work with the cards the way they’ve been dealt.” Nathan never recovered from his injuries and for the last 12 years Nate has lived that motto, inspiring everyone around him, with his tireless hard work in recovery, tenacity, love and sense of humor; active with his church, shooting matches when he was able, and attending police events – refusing to give up the life he loved, and lived, and fought for every day.

Funeral service information will be shared when arrangements have been made. Our hearts go out to his family, please keep them in your prayers.

Officer Nathan Murray, once a servant of the people of San Antonio, is now a servant for God. Your watch is over, Sir, rest in peace.

**************************************************
We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support shown by his family and friends in social media, and by friends of the range offering sympathies and kind words for his family and teammates. We are so very grateful. Your posts have been a blessing to all who have read, thank you. These are but a few of the photos shared across the internet, we credit his family, friends and those that loved him most for sharing these touching memories. Nate, you are so, so loved. You will live on in the hearts of every life you touched.

Today we celebrate the legal separation of the Thirteen Colonies from Great Britain. After voting for independence, Congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence, a statement explaining this decision. In a letter to his wife, Abigail, John Adams wrote of the significance, “(our independence) …ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade… from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.” Today, we celebrate the birth of our great nation, the diversity of it’s citizens, and freedoms we hold most dear. Cheers America!image

See y’all on Sunday!

THANK YOU to everyone who came to shoot our USPSA match yesterday. Thankfully, the worst of our storms cleared out on Saturday night, and with the sun shining all day, the range dried out quickly and our guests ended up with a pretty amazing shooting day!

We had the pleasure of hosting world renowned shooter, Max Michel, and a special group of his students this weekend: Todd DeVore, Ben Reynolds, Jeremy Smith, Cody Osborn, Nic Chew, Robert Powell, Henry Ruiz, Forrest McCord, and RCSC’s very own Raul Salinas (Sig Sauer), Kyle Riojas (Akai Custom Guns) and Robert Jimenez. These guys were a treat to watch in action, they made awesome look effortless!

Special thanks to our sponsor, MGM Targets and Rick Medina of Chozen1media for his media coverage of this weekends training and match. We appreciate each and every one of our sponsors, guests, friends and club members for supporting River City Shooters Club and all shooting sports in Texas – we wouldn’t be here without you.

Be sure to check out the Scores tab above for match details, and enjoy these great photos, courtesy of Chozen1media!

***SAVE THE DATES: Memorial Weekend, May 22-24*** Max Michel, the current IPSC World Champion (as well as the only shooter in history to hold 5 World Speed Shooting Championships!) will be hosting a private 3-day competitive shooting clinic for advanced shooters at the River City Shooters Club, with the 3rd day of instruction shooting RCSC’s regular 4th Sun. USPSA match, sponsored by MGM. THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY & MATCH YOU WON’T WANT TO MISS!! The cost for the private clinic with Max is $750 (the USPSA match fees for the rest of us is the regular fee of only $25, Ladies/Juniors $15). There’s still ONE SLOT LEFT in the clinic, please message the page if you’re interested. With such a great opportunity we’re filling all available bays!! You can look forward to 8 stages (RAIN or SHINE), including 2 classifiers. Stay tuned for more match details in the coming week!! Check out Max Michele here!

THANK YOU to everyone who came to shoot our SCSA match this morning!! We had 22 guns out today, the weather was cool and breezy, and everyone was safe and had a great time. Now we all need a sticker that says “I gave at the Atiscosa Mosquito Blood Bank” LOL, seriously, we appreciate each and every one of you for sharing part of your Mother’s Day with us, and for supporting shooting sports in Texas – we wouldn’t be here without you. Be sure to check out the Scores tab above for match details!!

***********SATURDAY UPDATE***************
All of the stages for tomorrow have been set up, and the official range report is that there are a couple of damp spots, but over-all the bays are dry – THE STEEL MATCH IS ON!! We can’t even begin to express how excited we are to finally be able to put on a match, and we hope you are too!! P.S., don’t forget to pack mosquito repellant, it’s that time of year and we want everyone to be as comfortable as possible. It’s a scientifically proven fact that comfortable shooters are FASTER and more ACCURATE – see y’all tomorrow!!

See you at Blackhawk on Sunday!
RCSC

We are so grateful for the rain, but we just can’t catch a break on match days!! We’re very sorry to have to cancel the steel match for tomorrow, range conditions are just too muddy and there’s more rain coming our way over night and into tomorrow. Thank you, everyone, for your continued understanding, let’s all cross our fingers for great weather for our next scheduled match, 4th Sunday USPSA!!

“Rain, rain, go away, come again another day…” With much regret, RCSC has to call off our USPSA match this weekend due to poor range conditions. The safety of our guests and team members is of upmost importance to us. The bays haven’t dried out from the last round (we all know how fun THAT was), plus all that we’ve received this week, the ground is saturated and we’re under a flash flood warning through Saturday night. Thanks for your understanding – whatever your plans, stay safe and dry, we hope to see y’all in April!!

UPDATE: Although the match was officially called off due to rain, some out-of-town folks had already made the trip to shoot with us and arrived when we were on the range assessing the conditions. What do you do when you have ready shooters, and perfectly great stages that had been set-up the day before, just dying to get shot? YOU SHOOT THEM!! A dozen brave souls banded together to make a single squad, the RCSC team scrambled to gather last minute registration details, set-up a PractiScore scoring device, and accepting $5 donations to cover the minimum range fee, we had ourselves a match!! Everyone was in good spirits, and went home a little ammo light, and just a little muddier than how they arrived – way to turn lemons into lemonade ladies and gentlemen!!

Sorry folks, the match scheduled for today has been called off due to sloppy range conditions, and anticipated additional rain this morning. If you’re still at home, stay there, if you’re already on your way, we’ll be happy to let you run the stages to get a little trigger time in – just be aware of extreme muddy conditions. PLEASE PARK OUTSIDE THE GATE, 2 WHEEL DRIVES WILL GET STUCK!!
